Plan the zone topology (see Collect Site Information).
It is recommended that you enable System Data Synchronization (SDS) for the network.
Assign the required number of "Fax Over IP (T.38) Licenses" and the required number of "Compression" licenses.
Reboot the system to enable the "Fax Over IP (T.38) Licenses" and "Compression" licenses.
NOTES:
If the number of T.38 licenses programmed exceeds the available DSP resources, a DSP alarm is raised and a maintenance log is generated.
EX controllers do not require separate Fax Over IP (T.38) licenses, as they support T.38 by default.
Enable the following options in the COS of the ports to which the fax machines are connected and in any trunks involved in fax calls:
Set "Campon Tone Security" to "Yes"
Set "Busy Override Security" to "Yes"
Set "Fax Capable" to "Yes" (Required for all ONS stations and TDM trunks that could carry a T.38 fax call.)
Network
Elements form
Assign a Zone ID to each MiVoice Business system.
NOTES:
Fax machines adopt the Zone ID of their host MiVoice Business system.
For an EX controller, the Zone IDs are different for trunks and devices. You can use the default Zone or use a manually defined zone. The Zone ID for the Enterprise Gateway Trunks is provisioned when the trunk is provisioned in the Gateway Trunk Profile. The programmed Zone ID value is displayed in the Network Elements form.
For an EX controller, if the main MiVB Zone ID is modified, it is not updated automatically by the Enterprise Gateways.
Fax
Service Profiles form
Modify the default Inter-zone Profile setting (if required) for the entire network:
The Inter-zone Profile setting defaults to 144000 (V.17 at 14,400 bps).
The settings are applied to all fax communication between the network zones
Create the intra-zone profiles for the network:
Intra-zone Fax Profile 1 and Fax Profile 2 are default profiles.
Select a profile, click Change, select the required settings, and click Save. See Fax Service Profiles for a description of the various settings.
If fax calls must pass through a SIP gateway to the fax machine host controller, enable the option in this form to allow the controller to recognize and respond to the call setup tones it receives from the fax machine.
Network
Zones form
By default, all zones are set to Intra-zone Fax Profile 1.
Intra-zone Fax Profile 1 supports G.711 pass-through fax communication. See Fax Service Profiles for the default settings. You cannot modify the Intra-zone Fax Profile 1.
Intra-zone fax profiles 2 to 64 support Fax Relay (T.38) Fax communication. You can modify the intra-zone fax profiles 2 to 64.
Based on your network diagram, assign the intra-zone fax profiles to the Zone IDs of the zones. Click the Zone ID of the zone, click Change, select the fax profile number, and then click Save.
If compression is required between zones, set Intra-Zone Compression to "Yes".
For EX controllers, T.38 is enabled by default. The second intra-zone Fax profile is defaulted to T.38, which can be used to take advantage of the T.38 resources, instead of the first profile that only negotiates G.711 pass-through fax communication.
Configure the Fax machines to receive faxes automatically. This setting allows the Fax machines to answer all calls in Fax mode. Do not set the Fax machines to manual mode.
